The Cork community is mourning the sudden passing of Niamh Barry, a much-loved young woman whose death has left her family, friends, teammates, colleagues, and the wider community heartbroken.
Niamh died suddenly at her home in Frankfield, Cork, in early July 2026. Tributes described her as a kind, caring, and compassionate person with a beautiful soul and a big heart.
Niamh was a valued member of Blackrock Camogie Club, where she was remembered not only for her commitment on the pitch but also for the encouragement and support she offered to her teammates. The club said she was kind and caring both on and off the field, always cheering for those around her and giving her best during every game.
Her involvement in sport extended beyond camogie. Niamh was also part of Ballincollig Basketball Club, where fellow players and members of the community have shared heartfelt memories of her warmth, positivity, and bright personality.
Outside of sport, Niamh worked as a special needs assistant, where colleagues remembered her kind energy and uplifting presence. Those who worked alongside her described it as a pleasure to have known and worked with her.
Niamh’s passing has left a profound void for her family. Tributes have been extended to her mother, Orla, her brother, Donncha, and her extended family and friends as they navigate this devastating loss.
Her funeral Mass took place at the Church of the Incarnation in Frankfield, with burial at St Oliver’s Cemetery. Her family requested contributions to Epilepsy Ireland in place of floral tributes.
Niamh’s memory will live on through the people she supported, the teammates she encouraged, the colleagues she inspired, and the many friends and family members who loved her.
